These Banana Chocolate Chip Bars are a delightful way to use up ripe bananas while treating yourself to something indulgent. Loved by kids and adults alike, this easy recipe will quickly become a household favorite.

  • Total Time: 35–40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 bars 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups mashed bananas (about 3 medium bananas)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (granulated or light brown for added depth)
  • 1/2 cup applesauce (unsweetened works best)
  • 2 large eggs

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (or a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for a warm flavor boost)

Add-ins:

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • Extra chocolate chips for sprinkling on top

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9″ baking pan with butter or non-stick spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the sugar and applesauce, mixing well. Crack in the eggs and whisk until the mixture is fully combined.

Step 3: Incorporate the Dry Ingredients

Slowly sift in the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until no streaks of flour remain.

Step 4: Add the Chocolate Chips

Fold in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, ensuring an even distribution.

Step 5: Pour and Top

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top for an extra chocolaty finish.

Step 6: Bake to Perfection

Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until the bars are lightly browned and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 7: Cool and Serve

Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Slice into 12 squares and enjoy!
